ESS on Winning Team for Potential Wind Energy Project in Westerly, RINovember 30, 2011 – ESS Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that it is on the team selected to develop a potential wind energy project in Westerly, Rhode Island. The Town of Westerly, which had been working with the Washington County Regional Planning Council to identify a potential site and developer of a wind energy project, selected the team led by Wind Energy Development LLC (WED) of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, from among several qualified applicants. As part of the wind energy project development team, ESS will perform visual, sound, and environmental analyses to help WED assess the feasibility of potential project sites. These sites will include Westerly’s closed landfill, which was a potential wind turbine site identified by the Town’s Alternative Energy Committee. ESS Vice President Stephen Wood, who will manage ESS efforts on the project, commented, “ESS has conducted environmental analyses for upland wind development projects in New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Virginia, ranging in size from one to over 100 turbines. This will be our second upland wind energy project in potential development with WED in Rhode Island, and we look forward to its success for the Town of Westerly.” ESS wind energy projects include both community and commercial scale developments in offshore, coastal, and land-based settings.
