ESS Sponsors, Attends, and Presents at Virginia Offshore Wind Conference 2011June 24, 2011 – Virginia Beach, VA – ESS Group, Inc. President & CEO Charles Natale, along with Director of Business Development Bob Erickson and Vice President Steve Wood, represented the company at the Virginia Offshore Wind Conference, which was held June 22-23 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. ESS was a proud sponsor of the event and Mr. Natale was one of the 60 speakers and panelists who presented at the conference. The Virginia Offshore Wind Conference brought together industry leaders, stakeholders, and policy-makers to discuss and confront the barriers and issues surrounding the development of offshore wind in Virginia. Some of those in attendance included Virginia Senator Frank Wagner, Director of the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club Glen Besa, Offshore Wind Manager of the Department of Energy Chris Hart, Rob Witherall of United Steelworkers, and Senior Economist of Virginia Economic Development Partnership Brian Kroll. ESS President & CEO Charlie Natale lent his expertise and insight to the conference as a panelist for “Siting Wind Off Our Virginia Coast.” This session covered the essentials for an offshore wind energy site, including compatible seabed conditions, transmission interconnections, access for equipment and personnel, and securing permission to construct the project. Natale commented, “Virginia offshore wind development is a hot topic and there are many people who are seeking to make the development of wind energy in the Commonwealth of Virginia a reality.
