Community Development Project Gets a New Look, New Name

June 7, 2012 – ESS Group, Inc. congratulates Twin Cities Community Development on the renaming of its redevelopment project at the former Whitney & Co. factory in Leominster, Massachusetts this week, as “Water Mill Apartments” to reflect the building's proximity to Monoosnoc Brook, as well as its history as a mill. The renaming coincides with National NeighborWorks Week, which promotes volunteering for neighborhood change and awareness.

Twin Cities Community Development is currently renovating the former factory into 40 affordable-housing units. Along with the rehabilitation of the factory itself, the renovation has included environmental cleanup of a former gas station and area improvements including traffic lights, sewer lines, and sidewalks. ESS performed due diligence investigations of the project site, provided remediation cost estimating to help secure funding from various agencies for the project, and completed the assessment and cleanup of the gas station site including all Licensed Site Professional and Massachusetts Contingency Plan support.

The $15 million project, which has approximately 14 funding sources, is expected to be complete in August or September of this year. A grand opening ceremony for the apartment building is anticipated in the fall.
