ESS Receives Virginia Small Business Certification for Consulting

February 6, 2012 – ESS Group, Inc. has been designated as a Small, Women-, and/or Minority- (SWaM) certified business by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Minority Business Enterprise (DMBE). The SWaM certification program is administered by the Virginia DMBE to support business between state government agencies and Virginia’s small, women-, and minority-owned businesses.

On August 10, 2006, Governor Timothy Kaine set forth a goal that 40% of purchases for the Commonwealth would be from SWaMs and established a Small Business Set-Aside Program, as well as several other initiatives, for state agencies and departments to enhance SWaM participation in procurement activities. This includes discretionary spending in prime contracts and subcontracts. The program requires small business goals in every agency's procurement plan.

ESS Director of Business Development Bob Erickson stated, “ESS is pleased to be able to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia under the SWaM designation. We hope the small business certification will further enable us to support our government clients and teaming partners as well as the local economy.”
