Payson Whitney, PE Promoted to Vice President

February 10, 2012 – Waltham , Massachusetts – ESS Group, Inc. is pleased to announce the promotion of Payson Whitney to Vice President. Mr. Whitney began his employment with ESS in October 1998 as a Project Engineer working on civil engineering and submarine transmission cable projects. He has served as a member of the ESS Management Team since 2006 and has been Practice Leader for ESS Land Development & Engineering (LDE) since 2011.  

ESS President & CEO Charles Natale comments, “Payson is a valued leader within ESS because of his ability to combine technical expertise with creative problem solving and business sense. Over the past 13 years, Payson has been instrumental in developing new products, business, and clients for ESS."

In his role as Practice Leader, Payson is focused on the integration of conceptual design and civil/site engineering services into ESS projects. “Having civil engineering and CAD services in-house at ESS adds value and convenience for our clients,” Payson explains. “On many projects we find ourselves on the project team from the siting and planning stage all the way through construction.”

In addition to holding professional engineering registrations in three states, Mr. Whitney is a recognized expert in the planning, permitting, and construction of submarine electric cables. His publications on this topic include The Critical Connection for Offshore Wind Integration (North American Windpower, April 2011).

Mr. Whitney earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University . He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the State of Rhode Island , where he has also earned a Master Design Certificate for Low Impact Development. Mr. Whitney was previously a Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section (BSCES) Board of Government Member as well as Chairman of the BSCES Waterways, Ports, Coastal & Ocean Technical Group.
