ESS Group, Inc. is seeking an experienced Coastal Engineer or Geologist to join our Ecological Sciences & Environmental Permitting Practice. Eligible candidates should have a Masters degree in coastal geology, coastal processes, or coastal/ocean engineering, and a minimum of 5 years related work experience.

The position requires excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills. The candidate should be able to work effectively either independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary consulting team. Familiarity or experience with shoreline erosion control, wave and tide interactions, sediment transport, modeling, and dredging and disposal is a plus. Knowledge of permitting and environmental impact review procedures is helpful.

The successful candidate must be able to:

• Collect measurements and analyze coastal data sets to support technical evaluations;
• Conduct coastal process evaluations, including shoreline change, sediment transport, water quality/circulation, wave and tidal hydraulics, shoreline stabilization, beach nourishment, dune restoration, and flood hazards;
• Perform numerical modeling of nearshore coastal processes including tidal hydrodynamics, water quality, waves, and sediment transport;
  Prepare impact assessments and federal, state, and local permit applications;
• Prepare correspondence and reports that are clear, concise, and technically sound;
• Demonstrate consistent attention to detail and ability to manage time to meet specified budgets and schedules;
• Contribute to business development and preparation of proposals; and
• Apply strong project and client management skills to varied assignments.
