Coventry Landfill Closure
Coventry, Rhode Island |
 |
ESS Group, Inc. was retained by a group of Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs) to prepare a statement of work to conduct a remedial investigation/feasibility study of the Coventry Landfill.
This project is being performed under the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s (RIDEM) voluntary Landfill Closure Program pursuant to both the RIDEM Remediation Regulations and Solid Waste Regulations. ESS was retained to develop a scope of work for implementation of a remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS) related to the closure of this former municipal landfill.
ESS represented a group of PRPs and led negotiations with RIDEM in defining the RI/FS scope of work. The RI/FS includes an evaluation of landfill soils and cover material, the extent of waste deposition, the magnitude and extent of groundwater, surface water and sediment impacts, definition of site hydrogeologic characteristics, and an evaluation of landfill gas generation and migration potential. Field work includes test pitting for waste delineation, exploratory borings, groundwater monitor well installation and sampling, soil gas survey work, surface water and sediment sampling, and a topographic survey.
The results of the RI/FS will be used to develop a cost-effective closure program for the landfill.
