ESS Group, Inc., in conjunction with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, assisted the City of Providence and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) with identifying opportunities to improve environmental protection of the Woonasquatucket River through zoning and land use changes and redevelopment of Brownfield properties.
ESS provided technical assistance in three main areas: river protection initiatives; Brownfield property site identification and mapping; and recommendations for state and city regulation of Brownfield property redevelopment.
The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council assisted ESS in facilitating a Task Force of neighborhood development corporations, community members, and City Council representatives to provide expertise and local knowledge for integration of residential neighborhoods within the river corridor, including economic development opportunities and restoration of existing natural resources to benefit urban residents.
