Noise Impact Assessments
Noise MeasurementESS designs and implements quantitative noise measurement programs to confirm existing conditions and cost-effectively demonstrate compliance with federal, state, and/or local noise limits. We use state-of-the-art equipment to measure background noise levels and design short or long-term noise monitoring programs tailored to the needs of each project. ESS noise control projects range from single source evaluations to large, complex developments. ESS also recommends mitigation, and monitoring strategies where necessary, including noise control measures for the retrofit of existing facilities. Noise ModelingESS engineers use state-of-the-art computer models to predict potential noise impacts and guide site and equipment selection. These models incorporate industry standards for outdoor sound propagation and generate graphics of noise exposure contours that are clear and easily understood by the client and stakeholders. The results of this predictive modeling are critical in demonstrating how new facilities will meet applicable noise impact criteria. ESS is experienced in modeling wind farm noise, both single turbine installations and multi-turbine facilities. Permitting and Noise ControlESS engineers serve as expert witnesses on noise control issues before regulatory agencies and siting boards. We participate in public hearings and conduct public outreach to communicate the expected noise effects of a project to affected communities.
