Project Success – Building Capacity, Reliability, and Environmental Benefits

Many ESS power generation projects are now either under construction or in operation. These projects provide added generation capacity, improved reliability, and/or environmental benefits. Many also provide power at reduced cost thanks to more diverse fuel supplies and/or more efficient operating technologies.

Successfully permitted ESS energy projects include:

  • New combined-cycle gas-fired power generation facilities
  • New and repowered cogeneration facilities
  • Repowering of existing oil-fired generation assets
  • Upgrades of existing electric and natural gas transmission interconnections
  • Development, expansion, or conversion of fuel storage assets
  • Due diligence for the transfer of existing assets

Conventional to Cutting Edge Energy Technologies

ESS energy services address the needs of alternative and renewable generation, as well as traditional fossil fuel technologies. To ensure energy reliability, ESS is increasingly working with clients to evaluate dedicated, inside-the-fence generation and combined heat and power projects. Small-scale turbines, solar, wind, and fuel cells can all be viable options. ESS also has capabilities to support projects proposing first-of-its-kind technology like offshore carbon sequestration, and assists energy clients with new regulatory requirements like procurement of emission reduction credits and greenhouse gas emission calculations/reporting.

Fuel Diversity - A Future for Clean Coal Technology?

Given the reliability and cost benefits of diversifying the nation's fuel mix, ESS continues to pursue the licensing of clean coal to reduce dependence on oil as well as natural gas. ESS has prepared impact assessments and permit applications for fluidized bed coal-fired cogeneration and integrated coal gasification combined cycle projects, as well as generation facilities powered by non-traditional fuels, like biomass / biofuel and recycled waste streams.
